Hello, my name is Vicky, and I am the maker and creator of Bear & Pickle.

I handcraft whimsical gifts and handmade keepsakes from my home in Mevagissey, Cornwall. I feel incredibly lucky to live where I do. Although I’m not originally from the South West, it is truly the place I now call home. We love our little house in this beautiful Cornish harbour setting. Early morning walks are our favourite, when all you can hear are gulls overhead and waves gently lapping below, with the occasional clink of boats or the rumble of kegs rolling over the cobbles as the taverns restock.

Cornwall is rich in Celtic folklore, filled with stories of Cornish piskies and knockers. I’ve always found it fascinating to explore the history and beliefs that have been passed down through the years. My love of magical creatures, fairy folklore, and toadstool houses has been a lifelong inspiration. From the darker, dreamlike puppetry of Jim Henson to the fantastical illustrations of Brian Froud, and the bright, colourful worlds of Super Mario Bros., FernGully, and Tinker Bell—these influences have all shaped my creative style.

I also remember growing up in the 1980s, when Brownie groups—then organised into “Sixes”—were often named after magical creatures: Elves, Pixies, Gnomes, Imps, Sprites, and Fairies. (Can you guess which one I was?)

I’ve never shied away from collecting unique, whimsical trinkets—little treasures placed around my home to make me smile. Now, I get to relive that sense of magic and curiosity through my own children. Through Bear & Pickle, I create handmade gifts in Cornwall, including whimsical home décor, magical keepsakes, and fairy-inspired decorations designed to be treasured, spark joy, and lift spirits on even the gloomiest of days.

To me, Cornish piskies have always seemed a little mischievous—naughty, tricksy, and often quite grumpy-looking (even though they are said to bring good luck). I wanted to create my own range of characters that weren’t defined by mischief, but instead could hold any personality you imagine. That’s why I keep their faces simple—so each one can become whatever you need it to be.
